Spring/Summer 2017 Member-submitted poetry deadline is May 21, 2017. Please remember that any previously published poems should be submitted with publishing credits--and you must own the rights.

Here is the short version:

• GOV is non-profit 501-c (3) Literary Foundation.
• 1. Membership is $20/year OR two issues of its anthology (which amounts to about a year.)
• 2. It publishes two member-submitted poems (no more than two 6x9 pages, approximately 40 lines-total on a page) written by its members. (If poems are really short, like haikus, I will allow more than two poems.)
• 3. Members receive two anthologies at no additional charge.
• 4. Members may enter contests and win cash prizes at no additional charge.
• 5. Non-members may enter contests for $5 each; First Place poems are published, prizes are awarded, but anthology must be purchased if winner wants a copy.
• 6. Only one entry per person per contest. (Poem cannot have been published, even on-line, or be submitted in any other contest anywhere, nor may it be submitted for possible publication elsewhere.)
• 7. You do not have to be a member to sponsor contests. However, contest sponsors do not automatically receive a copy of the anthology. (Financial reasons.)
• 8. Please use Times New Roman or Arial Font, 12 point; no fancy fonts. Single space. Please send them as a Word .doc attachment to galaxyofverse@gmail.com Be sure to include your name. Or just copy and paste poem into body of e-mail.
• 9. Patronage is greatly appreciated to help fund printing, postage and other expenses. Patronage donations (tax-deductible) begin at $10. (Mini-patron at $1.)
• 10. You do not have to be a member of any other poetry society to be a GOV member. 11. This Editor reserves the right to reject any blatantly inappropriate poems and poems that do not meet the standards of this publication. (This includes dogmatic religious and political poems.)

To become a member send $20 (check or money order),
payable to A Galaxy of Verse to:

Now the longer version: Please read for important details!

1. A Galaxy of Verse is a non-profit 501-c (3) Literary Foundation, which publishes member-submitted poems, sponsors a cash-prize contest, hosts member-sponsored cash-prize contests, and aims to produce two issues of its anthology each year. Finances are the final determination, which is why patronage is so important.

*** Please note that a "year" is not necessarily 12 months. A "year" is two issues of the anthology. If your membership started with Vol 31 #1, then your membership will be up for renewal AFTER you receive Vol 31 #2.

2. As a member, you may submit two of your poems for publication, total of which cannot exceed two pages of print (like the front and back of a 6x9 page is two pages.) More poems are allowed if you're submitting very short poems like haikus.

a. Poems may be previously published ONLY if you have the rights to them.

b. Please be sure you didn't sell or give away all rights to any poems you submit here.

c. Please state where poems were previously published.

d. GOV claims First Publishing Rights only on previously unpublished poems. All rights revert back to the author after publication.

3. Please use Times New Roman or Arial Font, 12 point; no fancy fonts. Single space. Please send them as a Word .doc attachment to galaxyofverse@gmail.com Be sure to include your name. You can send via hard copy in the US mail, also, but it's easier for me to copy and paste your poem into the book than it is to re-type it--and less chance of typos. (Also, Non-Centered poems are preferred.)

4. The editor/president of GOV has the right to reject any poems deemed unsuitable, which includes extreme language, political rants and religious dogma. We are not a religious or political foundation.

5. Patronage is greatly appreciated to help fund printing, postage, and other expenses. Patronage donations begin at $10; Patronitos donations begin at $1. All are tax-deductible only if a complimentary copy is not sent (if you are a non-member.) Non-profit laws do not allow tax-deductions if you receive anything but gratitude in return for your contribution.

6. To sponsor a contest (minimum first-place cash prize award $15): State specific subject and poetry form if desired, line limit of 40 lines or fewer, who is judging the contest, and other pertinent information, along with a check, or money order, payable to: A Galaxy of Verse to:
GOV Contest Sponsor
Barbara Blanks, Editor
1518 Running River Rd
Garland, TX 75044-7254

Payment may also be sent via Paypal, to galaxyofverse@gmail.com.

a. Only one entry per person per contest.
b. E-mail submissions are PREFERRED: Word .doc attachment; just one copy of each poem with your I.D. on it is sufficient.
If sending by US Mail, send one copy of poem(s) to address above with your identification on it. (Blind judging on all contests. The Editor does not judge any contests.) Be sure contest name is on each entry.
c. Entered poems cannot have been previously published--or contracted to be published anywhere.
d. By entering any sponsored contest, you are confirming the work is your creation, and you own the rights to it.
e. Only First Place winners will be published, unless sponsors provide prize money for 2nd & 3rd place, and those will also be published.
f. Non-member Contest Sponsors will not automatically receive a copy of the anthology. While Sponsors are greatly appreciated, none of that prize money goes toward GOV expenses.

8. Non-members may enter contests for an entry fee of $5 Per Contest entered. Paid winning poems will be published, but complimentary copies of the anthology will Not be sent.

9. Being a member means you ascertain authorship of your poems, agree to allow GOV to publish your poems, that you retain the rights to your poems. Poems may not be entered in any contests outside of GOV or submitted elsewhere for possible publication while being held for publication in GOV.

10. GOV has always had a limited print run in the past; once copies were gone, they were gone. This Editor will extend the life of the issues by using a Print on Demand company. POD will allow members and non-members to order as many additional copies as desired. POD printing and shipping is paid for by the individual buyer. Go to www.lulu.com and type Galaxy of Verse in the search area.

11. Book size is 6"x9". Some anthologies have been converted to e-books by Lulu, and are priced accordingly.

12. Paperback copies are $10. One issue is sent (or delivered) to members at GOV expense. Postage for extra copies is paid for by the purchaser.

*** Please note: It is your responsibility to keep me updated on changes in your contact information. Anthologies sent to old addresses will not be re-sent at GOV expense--unless your editor made the error.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
